All bookings by our clients are subject to our terms and conditions as detailed on the Rental Agreement which can be requested prior to rental and those on this website.

Our conditions are the same as or similar to those imposed by other car and van hire companies which are not often made clear, however, we prefer, to explain fully the conditions of rental.

In order to hire a vehicle YOU MUST have at the time of hire:

  • Photo ID driving licence
  • One additional proof of address no more than 3 months old (Utility bills, bank statements or similar).
  • If you do not have a photo card licence you will need to bring a passport as photo ID.

NON-UK licence holders must bring their passport. If you are a non-UK resident we will ONLY accept payment by CREDIT CARD.

All additional drivers must be present at the time of hiring and must be able to produce a full valid driving licence.

All other cancellations remain at a three day notice period, we are unable to offer you a refund within this period. Outside of this, there is a £45 + vat admin fee.

During Bank holidays and UK holidays periods, this period increases to a seven day period.


Drivers must be aged between 21 and 75 years of age and able to produce a full, valid, British or international driving licence held for at least one year. All International hirers must provide a readable (in English) unexpired licence from their country of origin, If the licence is not in English, an international driving licence must be provided also. 21-24 have restrictions and additional insurance cost please call.

Certain non-EU countries are excluded by reason of our insurance. If you hold a non-EU licence please check at the time of booking if your licence will be acceptable.

It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that he/she has the appropriate driving licence if you have any endorsements please check the endorsement conditions on the FAQ page. No refunds will be given where rentals are rejected due to non-production of a driving licence or non-disclosed endorsements.


We do offer cover for customers to take vehicles outside of Mainland Britain or to Northern Ireland at an additional cost. Contact us for details of additional costs.

Where vehicles are taken out of this country without our permission you will NOT BE INSURED and be in breach of the law both in the UK and the countries you visit. Any penalties and recovery costs will be your responsibility and any costs we incur will be recovered from you.

If the vehicle is impounded for whatever reason you will be responsible for payment of all charges to obtain the release of the vehicle. In the event that a member of our staff is obliged to collect the vehicle you will responsible for payment of all release fees; all transportation costs of our member of staff to the collection point whether or not it is in the UK (plus, if necessary any overnight accommodation and subsequent costs). A charge of £15+vat per hour will be charged to you for the duration of our employee's commitment to the collection. In addition, you will be responsible for the rental of the vehicle at the prevailing daily rate until such time that the vehicle is made available again for hire.


Fuel is paid locally. Our policy is operated on a full tank and the vehicle should be returned with fuel at the same level as at the time of hiring. Any shortfall will be charged at a rate of the local retail pump price plus a fixed charge of £10 to cover our costs of time and admin refilling the vehicle.

Additional driver requirements should be notified and paid for at the time of booking. Please note that anyone who has not been declared as an additional driver but is found to be driving the vehicle is NOT INSURED. This cannot be arranged retrospectively.

Delivery and collection of your car can be arranged, but you may be subjected to an additional cost. Also excluded are out of hour's charges, optional extras such as child seats (which must be requested at the time of booking)

Our insurance does not provide personal accident cover for you or your passengers other than under the third party road risks cover.

Our insurance does not cover loss or theft of your personal belongings or any other contents from the vehicle.

The vehicle is rented to you in a clean condition. On its return, it is a condition that the vehicle is clear of substantial debris (any amount in excess of that which will fit one single domestic bin bag). An additional charge of £37.50 plus VAT any environmental disposal charges will be levied on you.

Any additional cleaning of upholstery or carpets beyond vacuum cleaning will be charged in the same way as body damage and the rental charges on the vehicle will continue until such time that the upholstery is replaced or cleansed/dried and fit for rental again.

Where an animal has been carried without upholstery and carpets being properly protected by you, an additional charge of £37.50 plus VAT will be levied to cover additional cleaning and sanitizing.

Where upholstery and/or carpets are stained and these stains cannot be removed you will, notwithstanding the payment of any excess protection, be responsible for the cost of replacement. You will also remain responsible for the payment of rental charges until such time that the replacement/repair has been completed.

Mileage allowance is 150 per day, 700 miles per week after this allowance mileage is charged at £0.10 per mile on vans £0.10 per mile on cars.

Proof of Address & Licence

On collection, you are required to show hard copies of your licence and proof of address within the last three months and Passport if non-UK or Old style Licence. Failure to provide these will result in a refusal of vehicle rental and a full charge being made against your nominated credit or debit card. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THESE TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT AS VEHICLES CAN NOT BE RELEASED WITHOUT THEM.


There are restrictions imposed by our insurer, which mean that we are unfortunately unable to hire to persons in certain occupational areas. These include Sports professionals, Members of the Foreign Military, Market traders, Unemployed, Models, and Students.


All clients must produce a valid credit, switch or debit card in the name of the hirer upon collection of the vehicle as a form of deposit. Cash or Cheque deposits are not accepted.

Insurance & Excess

Our Vehicles come with fully inclusive insurance, unlike others that offer only third party and are supplied with standard CDW. Rentals carry a standard excess of between £850 plus VAT on cars £1500 plus VAT on vans for UK licence holders £1500 plus VAT for non-UK licence holders. Overhead damage on vans or side damage caused by improper use of mirrors whilst manoeuvring a vehicle is £1500+VAT. Between the age of 21 & 24 an extra £400 plus VAT applies. Driving convictions also increase your excess £50 plus VAT per 3 points up to 6 anything over 6 points the increase is £400 plus VAT. Extra cover to lower your Excess can be made to cap your liability at £250 plus VAT on cars £500 Plus VAT on Vans. Notwithstanding this payment, you will remain responsible for paying rental charges until such time as the vehicle is either repaired or written off by our insurance company.

Notwithstanding the payment of the ERW, in the event of the vehicle being damaged whilst on hire to you, you are responsible for paying the rental for the vehicle until it is repaired plus any administration charges. Payment for reduction of the insurance excess does not relieve you of this responsibility. Notwithstanding the purchase of the ERW, you are liable for all costs incurred for loss or damage to the vehicle, its accessories, Third Party vehicle(s) and property when:

  • The vehicle was being reversed unattended (i.e. a banksman)
  • The impact occurred above the height of the windscreen.
  • The vehicle has been overloaded or the load has not been properly secured.
  • The damage was caused to the side of the vehicle when manoeuvring due to poor use of mirrors

You are liable in full for damage to tyres, wheels, aerials, glass and the interior of the vehicle.

You are liable in full where loss or damage occurs due to negligence by the hirer.

You are responsible for the repair of any damage (including punctures) to wheels and tyres. If the wheel and/or tyre cannot be repaired you are responsible for the replacement.

Notwithstanding the payment of the ERW, the hirer shall be responsible for all the costs caused to the property or vehicles belonging to the hirer, driver or the immediate family of either the driver or the hirer.

Notwithstanding the payment of any ERW, you will be responsible for any costs resulting from loss of or damage to keys or locks.


For standard vehicles, the excess is a minimum £850.00 plus VAT on cars £1500 + vat on Vans. This excess is taken in the form of a pre-auth deposit, we will simply take a credit card details via pin and ask that you give authorisation that, in the unlikely event of an accident, we may charge your card for the appropriate amount.

The lessor retains absolute discretion on whom they wish to hire vehicles. The lessor may refuse to provide a vehicle to any customer who is, in our opinion, unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. The Lessor retains the right to terminate the hire early in the event of information being received of the vehicle being misused or being put at risk in any way.


Our vehicles are insured for the maximum number of passengers as laid down by the manufacturer. It is the responsibility of the hirer to satisfy themselves that the vehicle they have booked meets their requirements. Any specifications described on this website are in general terms and different models may have differing capacities and capabilities.


Every effort is made to ensure that you receive precisely the vehicle model you have booked, however, due to the nature of this business, we must state that Alchemy cars are unable to guarantee a particular make or model of car. The car model booked is for guidance only we may substitute for alternative similar vehicle or upgrade (at no extra cost) at our discretion.

It is the hirer's responsibility to operate the vehicle safely and in accordance with legislation.

The Hirer accepts that the lessor has no responsibility for training the Hirer in any aspect of the vehicle's operation.

Pre-rental inspection and inspection on return

When you collect your vehicle you will be given the opportunity to inspect the vehicle and note any visible damage on the inspection sheet which forms part of this contract.

On your return, the vehicle will be inspected again and any damage not noted on the pre-rental inspection sheet will be regarded as new damage that has occurred whilst the vehicle has been on hire to you. It is in your interests to ensure that you inspect the vehicle thoroughly and ensure that any damage is noted.

Vehicles can be returned to our offices at any time. However, if the vehicle is returned between 17.00 and 08.00 on weekdays or between 13.00 and 08.00 on a Saturday or Sunday, they will not be inspected by our staff until after 08.00. The vehicle is therefore parked during these hours entirely at your risk and any damage found on the vehicle will be considered to have happened during your period of hire and you will be charged per the conditions of this contract.


Extension of the rental period is solely at the discretion of the Lessor.

The hirer undertakes to return the vehicle to the offices of the Lessor by the time shown on the rental agreement unless an extension has been agreed by the hirer in writing, in advance.

If the vehicle is not returned by the agreed date and time the hirer shall pay to the Lessor a charge equal to 30% of the daily rate for each hour that the vehicle is overdue for return. In addition, the hirer agrees to pay such rental costs as are incurred by the Lessor where in order to fulfil a commitment to another reservation the Lessor has been obliged to hire in another vehicle. Such costs will be met by the hirer for the duration of such a contract.

In addition, the hirer shall pay to the Lessor a sum equivalent to the rentals that the Lessor would have received (less insurance charges) in respect of the reservation that the hirer's overdue return disrupted.


Immediately report any accident loss or damage involving Vehicle to the owner and the police or other proper authority and at owners request complete Owners accident report form without delay.

Immediately report any breakdown, fault or defect, reasonably requiring repairs to the owner and will not, in the case of defect or fault which makes vehicle unroadworthy or liable to cause damage or danger to persons or property or further damage to the vehicle, use the vehicle until such defect or fault has been repaired or corrected and will take all reasonable steps to prevent or mitigate any loss or damage occurring to vehicle. In the event of a break down the recovery is one way only and the vehicle must be returned to Alchemy Cars or a garage of our choosing. If possible please contact us to arrange the destination of the recovery.

It is the hirer's sole responsibility to ensure that the correct fuel is put into the tank of the vehicle. In the event of the wrong fuel being used, it is the hirer's responsibility to pay for the draining, recovery, mechanical work, damage rectification and any other costs incurred due to the introduction of the wrong type of fuel. The hirer shall continue to pay for the rental of the vehicle, at the daily tariff rate, until such time that the vehicle is roadworthy again.

In the event of a dispute regarding the wrong fuel having been introduced, we will submit the fuel for analysis and the costs of that analysis shall be your responsibility.

(CDW or Excess insurance) shall have no validity in case of damages caused voluntarily or due to negligence, damage to vehicle interior to include CD, Smoking, damage and theft of tyres except normal wear and tear, wheels (punctures, slashes etc.) and wheel covers as well as for damages caused by miscalculating the height of the vehicles, branches sticking out or of objects sticking out from the vehicle, for damages caused by misuse or not observing rules in driving the vehicle and conditions for use. Underbody damage includes but is not limited to any part of the underbody of the rented vehicle including misuse or abuse of such items as the clutch, exhaust system and suspension. Damaging the gearbox due to incorrect use of the clutch/handbrake. Seizing the engine due to incorrect use of vehicle or supplements to include placing petrol in a diesel engine and such mechanical failures will be charged against the nominated card at the time of rental, if sufficient funds are not available on this card you will be invoiced. Any outstanding payments will be subject to further overdue payments.

"Fair wear and tear" means a degree of wear which in the unfettered opinion of Alchemy cars Ltd is reasonably commensurate with the mileage of the vehicle but excluding accidental damage ( such as cracked or chipped headlamps) or wear arising, or in the unfettered opinion of Alchemy Cars Ltd to have arisen as a result of abuse or inappropriate driving techniques "such as riding of the clutch" Vehicles are inspected prior to your rental and unless the clutch failure is due to a mechanical fault other than a burnt out plate the renter will be liable for the full cost of replacement.

All overdue payments shall bear interest on the amount overdue at the interest which we will add every day to any overdue amount you do not pay us on time, at the rate of 4% a year above the base lending rate of Barclays Bank from time to time. Owners reserve the right to charge administration fees relating to late payments at £25.00 plus VAT per letter.

In the event of an accident it is the driver's responsibility to comply with the provisions of the Road Traffic legislation. Accidents must be reported to the Police and a signed Police report obtained. Full details of third parties must be obtained.

Failure to obtain information of third parties or any delay on your part that causes delay in the administration of the accident may result in our insurance company disclaiming liability. In such an event all costs will become your responsibility.

In the event of accident, no matter what the circumstances, we are not responsible for providing a vehicle in substitution for a vehicle rendered unroadworthy through accident.


Any vehicle movement into, out of or within the marked charging zone ("CCZ") between 07:00hrs and 18:30hrs (Monday to Friday), is chargeable. Only one payment per vehicle, per day is required, once the first payment is made, any number of journeys may be made that day into, out of or within the CCZ, by that vehicle. The payment must be made by 22:00hrs on the day the movement was made; otherwise the charge rises. If that is not paid before midnight, a Penalty Charge Notice will be issued. Further details may be obtained from Transport for London's website: You are responsible for all parking charges and the observance of all road traffic legislation. In the event that we, as the vehicle's owner, receive a fixed penalty charge notice, where that notice allows, we will advise the relevant authority of the hirer's details. It is the hirer's sole responsibility to challenge the legitimacy of the ticket. We will levy an administration charge of £35 plus VAT which you authorise us to debit against the credit card used for the original rental.

Where we receive notice of a road traffic offence that occurred during the rental period we will forward your details to the issuer of the penalty charge and an administration charge of £37.50 plus VAT will be deducted from the credit/debit card used for the original rental.

Pricing fluctuations

Rental charges may be subject to seasonal changes. All confirmed reservations made prior to any price changes will be honoured. Where a quotation has been given but a confirmed booking has not been made such a booking will be made at the seasonal rate prevailing at the time of booking confirmation.


All payments must be made by a credit, switch or debit card. Where the card holder is not the driver, we need the card holder to be in attendance when the hire transaction is carried out and to authorize us to take payment for any additional rental or other costs relating to the contract. Cards will only be accepted if they show the hirer's name, Card Number, Expiration Date and Security Code.


Full address including postal code and a contact number are required. Delivery and collection times are not confirmed at the time of booking, only AM or PM. An additional charge of £15 plus VAT per every half hour (or part thereof) if the driver cannot immediately deliver or collect the vehicle to the hirer and complete the formalities relating to the rental.

If an extension of the rental period is required the hirer must advise the Lessor at least 2 hours prior to the collection time otherwise the Lessor may at its sole discretion, impose an additional collection charge of £30 plus VAT notwithstanding the period of the original rental period or subsequent extension.

You must ensure that there is a legal parking place for the vehicle.

The hirer shall be responsible for the payment of congestion, parking and all other charges on all days including the day of delivery and day of collection.


All bookings by our clients are subject to our terms and conditions as detailed on the Rental Agreement and those on this website. No other terms, conditions and warranties, expressed or implied by law, custom and course of dealing shall form part of any contract between the Lessor and hirer except for those terms implied by law whose application is mandatory. The client acknowledges that in making a booking with the Lessor it does so only on the basis of the material contained in this document. All other statements or representations made by the Lessor, its employees, or agents are of no effect unless confirmed by us to the client in writing. You should satisfy yourself that you understand and agree to its terms and conditions as you will be subject to, and must comply with these terms.

The hirer agrees that the Lessor may charge the credit/debit card lodged as deposit or for payment to meet any additional charges whatsoever or howsoever incurred by the hirer. Such charging may be undertaken by the Lessor without further recourse to the hirer.
